Lyn Gibb de Swarte says that Littleport Town Council provides fun and games for local residents

The 15-strong Littleport Town Council, led by Clive Webber, is pro-active when it comes to the well-being of those it has been elected to serve.

And when it comes to leisure time, it’s no accident that Littleport has something interesting to do for everyone – from the youngest non-voting member of its inhabitants to the oldest who’ve voted the most.

Buildings like the village hall in Victoria Street can be hired for events and is used regularly by community organisations like the WI, The Littleport Society, the Flower Club and the Spiritualist Church.

There are also activities like Jess Dixon’s increasingly popular early morning ‘Slice of Fitness’ classes - 07900428014; the civic amenity in Camel Road, appropriately named Littleport Leisure Centre, and its grounds and football pitches, provides a vast range of activities.

It's home to many sports clubs including Ely Table Tennis Club, Littleport Lions Korfball Club, and Littleport Rangers Football Club that has a whole raft of teams from Under7s to Under 16s and Rangers 21s.

So many have been joining the latter club that Nathan Mitchell has put a call out for more volunteers to help run the club and coaches as a matter of urgency.

Nathan says: “You don’t need previous experience just enthusiasm.

“We are a community club where all abilities are welcome.

“And for coaching we’ll offer you all the support you need to gain qualifications and certificates.”

The council’s Youth and Community Centre in Cornfield Lane hosts events too like The Port youth club run by its community link worker for youth, Joanne Coe - 07842325180.

And the Littleport Community Singers rehearse there every Thursday 5.30-7pm organised by the LTC community link worker for older people, Kathryn Buck, who is also a professional singer.

She says: “All ages are welcome and it’s free.” 07904817941.

Kathryn has also just announced the arrival in Littleport of the Meals on Wheels service.
