Parliamentary candidate Charlotte Cane has launched the Liberal Democrat campaign to win the Ely & East Cambridgeshire seat from the Conservatives at the forthcoming General Election.

A voter poll in The Telegraph on January 14, dubbed ‘the most authoritative opinion poll in five years’, has predicted a Liberal Democrat gain in Ely & East Cambridgeshire.

At the launch conference of Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidates, councillors and campaigners, Charlotte said: “Our hospitals and schools are crumbling, sewage flows in our rivers, and housing, energy and food costs continue to rise.

"People are tired of a government too busy fighting each other to address any of their problems.

"Our local MP has been a minister under all of the four most recent Prime Ministers. When Johnson’s Covid law-breaking and repeated lying became too much for most ministers, she did not resign.

"The Prime Minister was letting down her constituents, but our MP put her career first, kept her head down and kept her post.

"People tell me that they are tired of nothing working any more because of neglect by this Conservative government.

"So, it was no great surprise when The Telegraph published a poll showing that the Lib Dems were on track to defeat the Conservatives here in Ely & East Cambridgeshire."

Ms Cane says she had live in the constituency for 30 years and has  been involved in the community as a parish and district councillor.

"My children were born in the Rosie, went to local schools, and my family all use local GP, dentist and other services. If I am elected as the MP for Ely & East Cambridgeshire I will work with local people to restore our public services and ensure a fair deal for all residents.”
