A new computer centre is to open in Ely this weekend following demand from the business owners' clients.

The Ely Computer Centre will be formally opened by Cllr Chris Phillips, the current Mayor of Ely and Mrs Mary Rone, the Mayoress, at 11am on Saturday, January 13.

Scott Colling, owner and managing director, is very excited to open a computer centre that will enable the local community to have a location to be able to receive support on their technology without having to travel outside the city.

Scott Colling opened Barbell Computing Ltd in August 2023 and has been operating a computer support and repair service, travelling to clients homes to help them with their computer needs as well as repairing computers and laptops from his home office.

He said: “Since I started working with clients in August, every client has spoken about there being a need in Ely for a computer centre.

"A place where they can get advice on their technology needs as well as purchase computers, accessories and peripherals as well as upgrades and repairs.

“This consistent message drove me to make this a reality and open the centre that everyone was asking for.”

“My ethos is to give clear - simple advice that everyone can understand.

Ely Standard: The Ely Computer Centre is located at 1B Lynn Road, Ely, CB7 4EG.

“During my home visits, I have supported with issues ranging from helping with a Blue Badge application to repairing laptop motherboard circuitry and everything in between.”

“I will be continuing to provide an at home service every Tuesday so that I can support those who cannot easily come into the town centre and ensure that everyone who needs technical support has access to it.”

The Ely Computer Centre will be located on Lynn Road, between Cloisters Antiques and Hadi’s Gelato, 80 yards from Ely Cathedral.
