An East Cambridgeshire slimmer who once feared dying and leaving his young children without a father has lost more than seven stone.

James Garner has been a member of Sharon Heap's group in Littleport Slimming World group in Sutton for 49 weeks, used to socialise with his previous management job at McDonald's.

The Littleport man suffered with sleep apnoea, struggled with his breathing and was generally very unwell at 29 stone.

He then joined Slimming World as felt it was the last chance saloon after trying many other ways to lose weight.

He was fearful of dying and leaving his young children without a father.

He didn't want to miss out on the corporate events, meetings and socialising as that was part of his new job.

He was also worried how people would perceive him in a male dominated environment at Screwfix.

He found that he could still eat out and socialise with his work colleagues, attend all the meetings and corporate events by just making different choices on the menu.

At home he socialises a lot, and his family and friends love the meals that he now makes.

His children choose Slimming World food, he now enjoys far more food and eats more food than ever before.

When he is out and chooses meals on the menu, he can enjoy and still lose weight.

He still drinks alcohol but he makes much better choices and doesn't miss the hangovers.

He drinks at the big corporate events that he regularly attends and still lose his weight each week, he socialises either personally or through work 4 to 8 events every single month.

James attends the Littleport Slimming World group with Sharon Heaps, which runs on a Tuesday morning.

A Slimming World spokesperson said: "Half of UK adults, say they’ve put off trying to lose weight due to ‘FOMO’ (fear of missing out) – with missing out on favourite foods and social events fuelling this fear.

"Foods people fear missing out on most are chocolate, takeaways, fish and chips and fry ups. More than three quarters of people say they get pleasure from eating their favourite foods (77 per cent) and two in three feel passionate about the food they eat.

"So much so in fact that more women say they fear missing out on their Sunday roast than going without sex."
