Andrew Walsh raised over £7,000 for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust by completing 10 ultra marathons, walking 1000km, across the year.  

Andrew praises Addenbrooke’s for saving his life when he was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer following a required scan after a car accident.

Ely was named one of the best places to live in Cambridgeshire according to the acclaimed lifestyle website Muddy Stilettos.  

Ely was in the top 10 best places to live amongst a list of 260 villages, towns, and cities.  

It was confirmed that after scrapping plans for the northern leg of the HS2 rail line, Ely junction will receive a long-awaited revamp. 

Ely junction will be improved to allow more transport such as freight and passenger services to run through, thus reducing traffic and reliance on lorries in the area.  

NOVEMBER

The last wave of acts were announced for Latitude Festival 2024 which is taking place from July 25 to July 28 next year.

Celebrations were in order for the City of Ely Swimming Club. After siblings Jacob and Lyra Schultz took home 26 medals between them at the Team Luton Swimming Club’s Autumn Short Course Meet.  

The swimming club took the squad to Luton to compete in a variety of events and brought home a whopping 79 medals, including 29 gold and silver, and 21 bronze.  

The team also secured 100 personal best times as the club celebrates its 100th year.

DECEMBER

Sarah The Cook took a well needed festive break from Soham’s Viva Theatre panto rehearsals and delighted crowds with a visit to the Ely Festive Market.  

Ely Cathedral hosted an army of 35 volunteers who are making sure everyone can have access to a festive meal.

Residents, visitors, and staff of Vera James Care Home in Ely were treated to a festive musical performance by the children of St. John’s Primary School.  

The students came to the care home to spread Christmas cheer and sing carols with the residents.  

Some residents even joined the performance with small hand bells.
