Lyn of Littleport shares her Christmas message.

It has been a pleasure telling you about just some of the activities, groups and people, my friends and neighbours, that have contributed to the daily life of Littleport over the past year.

As we approach and enjoy the Christmas festivities, those less fortunate than ourselves, the lonely or recently bereaved are all considered in various practical ways.

For instance, my partner is one of those many in the village who always make an extra dinner with all the trimmings for a neighbour on Christmas Day. Littleport lives the message that this is indeed the season of goodwill.

Littleport also celebrates every New Year’s Eve with gusto, whether at home or visiting one of our popular and welcoming hostelries or restaurants.

And we look forward too to the forthcoming months, knowing that all the regular sociable events for all ages, under the auspices of Littleport’s sundry organisations from the Brownies to the Friendship Group, will take place as usual. As will the annual Remembrance Parade on Sunday November 10.

And in 2024, as it has for every year since 1919, the hourly chiming of the memorial clock on St George’s Church tower will remind us of the sacrifice of Littleport’s fallen in two world wars and more, that makes our peaceful mid-winter in Littleport possible.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
