The Littleport community has ever been intertwined with Ely, from Roman times to now.

The Domesday Book of 1086 records that the Abbot of Ely got 17,000 eels a year out of the village, and fast forward, our time machine takes us to 1816 and the march on Ely from Littleport, the ensuing riot and the hanging of five Littleport men at Parnell Pits.

Less than two miles away from that once dreadful place this Sunday morning, 24th it’s the Christmas Eve Ely Country junior parkrun, and volunteers are always there who make the trip from Littleport.

There will be cake and treats, Christmasy fancy dress outfits for this their 100th meeting. They are on the lookout for more volunteers so please email elycountryjuniors@parkrun.com and join the fun!

Littleport has its 216th parkrun this Saturday morning and the runners, joggers and walkers are very likely to respond to the organisers invite to wear Christmasy apparel – volunteers too. More volunteers are always welcomed, email littleport@parkrun.com and this assembles at 8.45 for a 9 am start outside Littleport Leisure.

The Centre is open for gym users Saturday 9-4pm and Sunday 9-1pm. Reopening with its usual programme on Wednesday 27, 9-4pm so you can work off those Christmas and Boxing Day treats.

But let’s focus on Littleport Christmas cheer - there has been a festive atmosphere for weeks and Christmas itself is nearly upon us.

Friday night, 8pm on the 22nd at the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club, there’s free Christmas Karaoke with KJ Entertainments.

With thousands of songs to choose from and online song books with the words (www.kjkaraoke.co.uk) you’ve no excuse not to go and enjoy yourself. Why just sing in the bath?

It not only costs you nothing on the door, but the drinks at the bar are also extremely easy on the pocket.

Last weekend Littleport Brass Band’s Christmas Concert at St Georges was a resounding success and well attended by an appreciative audience.
