An East Cambridgeshire man has been disqualified from driving following a drink-drive tip off from a member of the public.

Police were on patrol in Newmarket Road, Cambridge, on November 22 when they were alerted to concerns Nathan Wright had been driving his blue Vauxhall Zafira while over the limit.

Officers stopped Wright and he blew 93 microgrammes at the roadside, almost three times the legal limit of 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

He later provided a sample of 74 in custody.

At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (December 7) Wright, 30, of Quarry Lane, Swaffham Bulbeck, was disqualified from driving for 20 months after pleading guilty to drink driving. He was also fined £350.

PC Dylan Bucciferro, who investigated, said: “Thanks to the concerns reported by the member of the public, Wright was prevented from putting himself and other road users at any further risk.

“There is no excuse for drink diving. This sentence now means he’ll be off the road for some time and we hope he reflects on his actions.”

The force operates a dedicated, confidential hotline, 0800 032 0845, which is available 24/7 and provides the public with the chance to provide information about anyone they think may be driving under the influence.
