The cause of a chimney fire in Burwell on Tuesday evening (November 28) has been confirmed.

Crews from Burwell and Soham were called to a fire on Ness Road at 7:45pm.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the chimney of a house. They extinguished the fire and returned to their stations by 11.50pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Please ensure that you get your chimney swept and brick work inspected regularly, at least once a year.

“The debris buildup in the flue can be set alight when heating the home, which could cause a significant fire. Regular chimney maintenance will help prevent this from happening.

“As the cold weather begins to arrive, it is important to get your chimney swept before lighting it for the first time.”
