A man punched, kicked and headbutted his ex-partner and even claimed he was “enjoying it” as he attacked her.

Shane Riley, 44, began arguing with the victim at her home in Soham on June 8, 2020, after she told him their relationship was over.

When they were in the garden, he pushed her so that she fell over a chair and injured her leg.

The following day they continued to argue.

Riley slapped the woman and punched her, causing her to fall to the floor. While still on the floor, he continued to punch her, with the victim pleading with him to stop.

Riley continued the attack, telling her, “I’ve never hit a woman like this before, but now I’m doing it I am actually quite enjoying it.”

He then smashed the woman’s phone, threatened to kill her and kicked her to the shin.

Riley headbutted the victim after forcing her to go upstairs so she could not escape.

The woman waited for Riley to fall asleep, before leaving the property and going to a friend’s home, where police and ambulance crews were called.

Riley, of High Street, Swansea, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, common assault, making threats to kill and criminal damage.

On Friday (November 24) at Peterborough Crown Court, Riley was jailed for 23 months. He was also given a 10-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

Detective Sergeant Josh Mills said: “This was a sustained and horrifying ordeal for the victim.

“The fact Riley claimed to enjoy assaulting her is sickening and I’m pleased he has faced justice for his actions.
