Last Saturday Ely Archers took part in the prestigious Portsmouth competition held at Littleport Leisure Centre, writes Lyn Gibb de Swarte.

As well as winning lots of medals, their raffle raised £230 for Littleport’s centre for adults with learning disabilities, Branching Out.

Littleport people always support charity events, and never more enthusiastically than in the run-up to Christmas!

This Friday 24 at Littleport Village Hall, the Crown Inn - aka Sara Alexander and Rob Clarey with their friendly staff - will host a Christmas family Bingo night with drinks and snacks available from the bar from 7-10pm.

Purchase bingo books containing eight games for £10 on the door, and there’s a great raffle too, all in aid of The Littleport Players and a Breast Cancer charity.

Then looking ahead to Friday December 8, the Crown is hosting the annual Christmas Fayre together with the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club fundraising for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Helping make this happen are the members of Littleport’s Lanterns biker group.

The Crown at the corner of Main Street and Crown Lane, CB61PJ (pedestrianised from 3pm) has food vendors, Santa’s Grotto from 5.30pm, a local dance group performing, carol singers and fairground rides, a giant raffle drawn at the end of the event, and there’s a fabulous indoor market with 14 stalls selling a multitude of gifts at the Club, CB61PZ,  three minutes’ walk down the road at Ponts Hill.

Club Entertainments Manager Derek Timbers said: “Warm yourself with hot sausage rolls, mince pies, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, or slightly more daring, home-made mulled cider! Please support this life-saving charity.”

Other Christmas events are on offer too – next Thursday 30 from 5-7.30pm locally based business Thurlow Nunn Standen, Wisbech Road CB61RA, invite everyone to their free Christmas lights open evening.

Kids can have their photo taken on a tractor, Father Christmas will be there, mulled wine for the grown-ups and mince pies, games and a raffle.
