Cherry Hill Park saw another superb annual Ely fireworks evening on November 4 and organisers have hailed the event "a great success".

Despite the rainfall earlier in the day, a crowd of several thousand experienced an excellent display which lit up the sky over East Cambridgeshire.

The event was organised by the Ely Community Events Team ( ECET ) who thanked all those who helped to make the event such a great success.

This included the venues selling tickets; Fireworks Crazy for the fabulous display, Ely Cathedral, and all those who volunteered their services such as site stewards, St John Ambulance team and Cambridge Commodities for their sponsorship.

Congratulations also went to the 2nd Beaver Scout Colony for winning the Guy Competition, which was judged by the mayor, Cllr Chris Phillips. The scouts will receive a £100 prize for their inventive effigy.

"The evening has also produced a very good financial return and, as in previous years, all surplus funds will be destined for the benefit of the local community," said Michael Judkins from the organising committee.

"ECET will therefore now be embarking on identifying worthy and needy causes which can be usefully assisted.

"Any organisation, group, or even individual needing support, within Ely and its locality is invited to contact ECET should they wish to be considered for a donation from the money raised at this year’s fireworks event.

"ECET hope, by these means, to reach out to as many deserving people and organisations as possible."

Anyone wishing to be considered is invited to contact ECET at: pr@ecet.org.uk Please give details about yourself, your group or organisation, and whether or not you would be looking to fund any particular project – if so, details of any funding target and amount raised so far. Priority will be given to those who have not previously benefited.

All requests need to be submitted by January 5, and will be considered at the ECET team meeting to be held during that same month.
