Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service have issued advice to homeowners following a chimney fire in East Cambridgeshire.

One crew from Littleport was called to the fire in Brandon Bank at 8.42pm on Thursday November 2.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving a chimney in a home and extinguished it. They returned to their station by 11.30pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

A fire service spokesman said: “Please ensure that you get your chimney swept and brick work inspected regularly, at least once a year.

“The debris build-up in the flue can be set alight when heating the home, which could cause a significant fire. Regular chimney maintenance will help prevent this from happening.

“As the cold weather begins to arrive, it is important to get your chimney swept before lighting it for the first time.”
