After 19 years of providing customers at a popular town pub, the landlords are moving to pastures new next month (November).

John Hartley and his partner Zoe say they have “had so much fun” running The Fountain Pub in Soham but will be moving to The Cotswolds looking for more of a work/life balance, something they say they do not have currently.

“We are really looking forward to our first proper Christmas together without having to get up, pick up cigarette butts and then work behind the bar,” said John.

The couple will be moving from Soham on November 16 but are unsure at this stage when their last day of trade at The Fountain will be.

“Our pub company who are buying the pub back from us will not be buying any stock so as soon as our wet stock has gone, we will cease trading,” said John.

This Saturday (October 28) will be the pub’s last live music event, and John and Zoe are hoping to see as many of their friends and customers there as possible.

The ‘Splitter Party’ starts from 6pm with live music from 7:30pm provided by ‘Mc Ska Thy’ playing Reggae and Ska classics.

John added: “We have had so much fun and made great friends along the way and have so many fond memories to take with us.”

The Fountain Pub, described by locals as ‘friendly', is located at 1 Churchgate Street, Soham, CB7 5DS.

Serving from two separate bars, both of which have open fires, there is an array of spirits and mixers to choose from so there really is something for everyone. The Fountain’s gin shelf alone has 14 different varieties for customers to work their way through.

In 2022, the couple transformed the pub’s award-winning beer garden with an £800 makeover.
