There was medal success for Littleport skaters at a national competition.
On the weekend of October 13-15, the GBSA held the National Autumn Figures and Free Skating 2023 Competition at the Breydon Arena, Great Yarmouth, in Norfolk.
In this elite event Ely Roller Skating Club skaters, who train at Littleport Leisure Centre, made a good raid on the GBSA trophy and medal cache!
In the Level 1a, 11 years and younger, in her first free skating nationals, 11-year-old Sophia Carter won a bronze medal.
Level 2 Free, a silver medal for Megan Vardy. Level 1 Figures 13 years and over, a silver medal for Imogen Taylor. Level 3 Figures, Courtney Coles won a silver medal.
Megan Vardy was the trophy and gold medal winner in the Level 4 Figures. A trophy and gold medal went to Kiera Clifford in the Level 5 Figures. Level 6 Figures, a bronze medal for Cathy King. And eight-year-old Amy Langston won a bronze medal in the Tots Ladies Figures.
The proceedings were topped off by Youth Ladies Figures Trophy winner and gold medallist, Maddison Bourn.
Mallory Pearce acquitted herself exceptionally well representing Great Britain in her first international call-up at Hettange Grande over the same weekend.
Mallory finished 11th in her Free Dance and 14th over-all.
Chair of the Club Alice Figgins also makes many of the delightful frocks the skaters wear, and young Amy, Sophia and Megan wore her costumes for their medal-winning routines.
Ely Roller Skating Club members have to find all their own expenses when they enter competitions and have engaged in many fundraising events like the cake and gift stall mornings held on Saturday morning fun skate days at the Littleport Leisure Centre from time to time.
It would be nice for the club if a local business or two could sponsor them!
