Seven puppies were found abandoned on the side of the road yesterday (Tuesday, October 10), and it is thanks to a local construction company that they are now safe.

Whilst heading to a site in Hale Fen in Littleport, a team member at D Silcock Construction which is based in Ely, Lloyd Winters, spotted the puppies.

He, another team member Mike Lee and two men who stopped, rounded up the puppies and looked after them until Dave Silcock arrived with a dog crate.

In the meantime, Lloyd called the local vets Johnson & Scott’s who put the men in contact with the dog warden.

“We were then advised to take the dogs to Johnson & Scott’s Littleport Practice where the pups were examined and are awaiting collection by the dog warden who will take them to Woodgreen for treatment and eventually re-homed,” said Dave.

“If it wasn’t for Lloyd these poor things would have been left to die in a ditch.

“How the hell can people be so cruel. It disgusts me.”

The company hopes that they will be able to keep track of the puppies’ progress and keep customers and East Cambridgeshire residents updated with news of their re-homing.
