Personalised fitness plans and unique gym facilities at a Cambridgeshire care come have turned around the wellbeing and mobility of two determined residents.

Philip Bramford and Margaret Baker, have both defied the odds to undergo incredible improvements in their physical health thanks to the fully equipped gym at Bramley Court care home in Histon.

Margaret aged 91, struggled to walk due to hip pain and, despite initial reservations, she underwent hip replacement surgery.

The team at Bramley Court knew how much she wanted to regain her mobility and once she was sufficiently recovered, they set about devising a personalised exercise programme to get her back on her feet.

Within six weeks she progressed to confidently using a frame, allowing her to walk independently  in the garden which is a particular pleasure for her.

Margaret has recently taken a trip to the coast and was able to walk along the shore, enjoying a family holiday.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Bramley Court for the unwavering support and encouragement I have received throughout my recovery,” Margaret said.

“The gym facilities have really helped me, helping me to make a full recovery.”

When Philip moved into Bramley Court, he was completely  immobile and he faced major challenges in his daily life.

However, the team devised a personal program for him to follow in the gym and he was determined to make a positive change.

Although initially hesitant, Philip embraced the equipment and began his journey towards reclaiming his strength and experienced a remarkable transformation.

From relying on the assistance of multiple carers and mobility aids, he can now stand and walk independently within his home and is enjoying trips out with family and friends, a particular highlight, was a boat trip.

With regular visits to the gym he initially focused on increasing his strength, Philip has continued to progress and is now working with heavier weights and more complex exercises than ever before.

“I really feel the gym has saved my life. Bramley Court have not only changed my physical health but also revitalised my spirit,” said the 74-year-old.
