15 girl guides are cycling 30km from Cambridge to Ely tomorrow (September 30) to raise money for a trip to the Guiding World Centre in Sangam, India next year.
Heather Maidens' daughter and 14 other girls have been selected from Cambridgeshire East to represent the local area and country internationally at the centre.
When there, the girls will participate in a leadership and community outreach programme to help people in the local area.
It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for them all, but they need to raise a lot of money to make the trip a reality, hence the girls taking on the cycling task.
Ella, Sophie, Layla, Megan, Madeleine, Maja and Clara are taking part in tomorrow’s cycle, stopping at Anglesey Abbey and Wicken Fen along the way.
Heather said: “As a parent, I think this trip is an amazing opportunity for the girls to develop their leadership skills, make new friends and to broaden their experiences of different cultures while still giving back to the local Sangam community.”
