Train services from Ely are not running this morning (Tuesday September 26) due to a signal fault.

Greater Anglia said a loss of power to the signalling system north of Ely is the issue and that Network Rail teams are currently investigating the cause of the fault.

"In the meantime, we are unable to run trains through Ely," said a spokesperson.

"Due to signalling problems between Shippea Hill and Ely, fewer trains are able to run on all lines.

"Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

"Disruption is expected until further notice."

The following routes are affected:

  • Norwich - Cambridge - Stansted Airport will run between Norwich - Brandon
  • Ipswich - Peterborough will run between Ipswich - Ely
  • Ely - Liverpool Street will start from Cambridge
  • CrossCountry, East Midlands and Great Northern are also affected
  • Ipswich - Cambridge is not direct affected, but may be disrupted

Alternative travel options

Tickets will be accepted on the following alternatives:

  • East Midlands Railway on any reasonable route
  • CrossCountry on any reasonable route
  • Great Northern between Ely and London Kings Cross
  • Thameslink between Cambridge and Stevenage, and also London Kings Cross / St Pancras Intl
  • Thameslink between Peterborough and London Kings Cross / St Pancras Intl
  • LNER between Peterborough and London Kings Cross
  • London Underground between Tottenham Hale, Stratford, Liverpool Street and Kings Cross St Pancras


In addition to the routes detailed above, a limited replacement bus service is running between:

  • Ely and Brandon, provided by Angies Tours
  • Ely and Peterborough, provided by Young's Coaches from approximately 08:00
  • Please note that e-scooters, electric and full size bicycles are not permitted on rail replacement vehicles.
