Cambridge Film Festival is set to return next month, with a wide range of films to suit all ages and tastes.

The festival will show at the Cambridge Arts Picturehouse from Thursday, October 19 to Thursday, October 26.

Almost 100 films will be shown, from more than 30 countries - including more than 25 UK premieres of features and shorts and several European premieres.

This year 50 per cent of the films are female-directed, and will be highlighted across the festival with a special 'F-rating'.

Highlights of the festival include Poor Things, which has been tipped for numerous awards.

After trying to take her own life, Bella Baxter is resurrected by an experimental Victorian anatomist in this black comedy Frankenstein-esque tale - starring Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef and Mark Ruffalo.

Another highlight is Mutt, described as an "unmissable gem" from Sundance. The film tells the story of recently-out transgender man Feña, who faces surprise encounters with three important people in his life over the course of one day.

Viewers can also see Creatura, which was this year's winner of the Europa Cinemas prize as Best European Film at Director's Fortnight.

Creatura is described as a "frank exploration of female sexuality and desire", directed by and starring Elena Martín.

Cambridge Film Festival is welcoming the return of the Family Film Festival, with a free family screening on five of the half-term holiday mornings during the main festival.

Meanwhile the Voices of Earth series will focus on environmental issues including climate change, sustainability, indigenous traditions and greenwashing.

Owen Baker, from the festival management team, said: "It's no secret that it has been a difficult time for cinema and the arts recently, which is why I'm even more proud of the first-rate programme our incredible team have put together this year.

"There has never been a better time to come to the Cambridge Film Festival and discover a hidden gem of world cinema or see a huge preview weeks or months before your friends!"

Tickets and a full programme are available from September 25 at www.camfilmfest.com.
