A by-election is taking place in the city next month (September) for a new Ely North Ward councillor. 

The previous incumbent Cllr Mary Robinson was co-opted to the post in May 2023. 

On Thursday, September 21, people will go to the polls within the North Ward of Ely Parish to choose from two candidates to become one of five elected members for North Ward – Ely Parish. 

Ross David Trent (Liberal Democrats) and Adam Joshua Wilson (Labour Party) have been nominated for election.

There are currently 15 members on The City of Ely Parish Council. These include three for Ely East Ward, five for Ely North Ward, one for Ely Cathedral Ward and six for Ely West Ward. 

The City of Ely Parish Council has elections every four years, and the last elections were held in May 2023.  

They hold a mayor making ceremony every year in May and the current Mayor is Cllr Chris Philip.

Following the close of poll at 10pm on September 21, ballot boxes will be counted at the district council offices in the council chamber.
