Customers of a popular low-price shoe shop in Ely have been told it will close later in the year.  

Shoe Zone shoppers claim staff say their final day of trading at the High Street premises will be November 22. 

This publication has made multiple attempts to contact the ShoeZone head office to confirm the closure and for further comment, but has not received a response.

The Ely store is said to currently employ five people with a mix of full-time and part-time roles.  

Shoe Zone has more than 330 stores in cities and towns throughout the UK and employs more than 2,500 people.  

This latest news for retail in Ely comes after it was announced that discount chain Wilko had gone into administration

Earlier this week the popular retailer announced 'administration sales' with discounts being offered across its stores. 

The national chain has 400 stores across the country, including branches in Ely, Cambridge, Huntingdon and Peterborough.
