An Ely student from the Mark Farnham Schools of Tae Kwon-Do has become a world champion.

After months of heavy preparation, Dylan Faulkner picked up a gold medal in the Boys Red Belt Sparring category at the World Taekwondo Championships 2023.

Dylan wasn't the only Ely student celebrating success. Veaceslav Pascal came second in Boys Red Belt Sparring and third place finishes for Anna Munday in the Girls Black Belt Team Sparring and Carrie Lord in the Ladies Black Belt Sparring.

Master Mark Farnham said: "To win any award at this event is a very serious achievement, let alone be the best in the world."

During the event, 16 fighting areas ran throughout the three days from July 14-16, with more than 2,000 competitors taking part.

Thirty-three students in total from the Mark Farnham Schools of Tae Kwon-Do competed in the tournament at the Coventry Sky Dome, and all enjoyed great success.

Competing in pattern, sparring, destruction, team pattern and team sparring events, the students gained a huge haul of 19 awards, including a second world champion medal which was won by King's Lynn student Callum Warnes.

Master Farnham added: "Very well done to the students."
