On Thursday April 27, two students from Witchford Village College (WVC) took part in a debating competition at the Palace of Westminster.
Each year, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, Lucy Frazer, invites pupils from secondary schools from her constituency to Westminster for a debating competition.

‘This house believes only adults should be allowed to join social media’ was one of the motions debated by students from schools in the final of the annual inter-school debating competition.
Also on the table was the motion ‘This house believes GCSEs should be abolished’. Arguments in part derived from students’ own experiences, and dominated lively exchanges.
The teams made up of students representing all six senior schools in the constituency put forward convincing arguments both for and against these debates, and all excelled at arguing their cause in a measured and compelling manner.
Other students from the schools also spoke from the floor.
Teacher of English at Witchford Village College, Daniela Thake, said: “Both students and staff of Witchford Village College have been delighted to participate in this prestigious event.
“This has been a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn new skills and develop their confidence in public debating.”
She added: “We are most grateful to Lucy Frazer and her team for organising this excellent learning opportunity which has developed further our students’ aspirations.”
MP for South East Cambridgeshire, Lucy Frazer, said: “Debating is a fantastic way for young people to learn important life skills, from public speaking to effective reasoning.”
