Darryl Preston explained that while he understands residents will be shocked by what happened, it is thought “there is no risk to the wider community”.

He said: “I want to express my deepest sympathy with anyone who has been affected by the events that took place last night in Bluntisham and Sutton and completely understand how shocked local people will be.

“I will continue to be briefed by the Chief Constable throughout the investigation and am sure you will understand that while that is ongoing, it would be inappropriate for me to comment any further.”

He added: “I would like to reassure local residents that these incidents are thought to be targeted therefore there is no risk to the wider community.

"I would urge anyone with any information to come forward to assist the police by calling 101 or using the force webchat.”
