In December 1953, the Ely Standard informed its readers that Coronation celebrations had curtailed the running in Littleport of a regular brass band contest.

But it wrote in glowing terms of the Littleport brass band’s past efforts and looked forward to 1954!

In this Coronation year, 70 years later, we look forward to the Littleport band playing ‘Chorale and Toccata’ at the annual regionals contest, Sunday, March 19 at Stevenage.

Open rehearsal is on Friday, March 17 at Littleport and East Cambridgeshire Academy, 7.30pm.

Littleport Band suffered the loss of their president Bill Sharpe’s wife, tireless fundraiser Joan Sharpe, whose funeral took place this month.

Chair of the band committee, flautist and second Baritone player Sue Stygall, says, “Joan will be uppermost in our thoughts as we take to the stage Sunday.”

There is a ‘volunteering event’ at the village hall on March 16 from 10am-12.30pm where local groups that provide services to older people are hoping you will find out what opportunities there are!
