A council has been left angered after dozens of items including children’s toys were fly-tipped in a cemetery.

Milk cartons, crisp packets and several litter bags were also strewn at the cemetery on Fordham Road, Soham on January 11.

A Soham Town Council (STC) spokesperson said: “We are dismayed that anyone would think it was okay to dump rubbish anywhere in the town.

“But particularly in a cemetery, especially as there are ample waste collection services available.”

STC believe the dumped items, which have since been cleared by the town council, were household waste meant for collection by East Cambridgeshire District Council’s (ECDC) Street Scene team.

Those responsible for the fly-tipping have yet been identified.

“It is difficult to understand why anyone would think it acceptable to dispose of their rubbish in this way,” the STC spokesperson added.

“We would urge residents of the town not to fly-tip but to make use of available services for the collection of waste.”
