Primary school pupils hope a road safety campaign will help make their village much safer in years to come.

Junior travel ambassadors (JTA) at Robert Arkenstall Primary School in Haddenham are some of almost 200 year five pupils in Cambridgeshire to have taken on the role.

And the group have already been planning for a safety campaign in the village as part of charity Brake’s national road safety week this month.

Cllr Alex Beckett, chair of the highways and transport committee at Cambridgeshire County Council, wants more schoolchildren to get involved in the council’s scheme.

He said: “We are always keen to get involved in schemes that help school children to become more aware of road safety and encourages them to participate in active travel.”

The JTA scheme aims to give pupils in Cambridgeshire a chance to make their own decisions about what they think needs to change in order to improve road safety for their school.
