Last Sunday's Remembrance Day in Littleport was truly memorable when the village came together as one, adults and children alike, to honour the fallen.

And Littleport has more than enough reason to be proud - and sad; losses to the families in both World Wars were read out in the service at St George's Church.

Some surnames were sadly repeated, never to return.

And the same surnames were repeated in both, with some families suffering losses in the First and Second World War.

There was a parade to the church, including some of the oldest residents to the youngest.

Scouts and Guides, Brownies, Cubs, Beavers and Squirrels, all marching along to the tune ‘True and Trusty’ played by Littleport Brass.

In fact, the Last Post was played by band soloist James Stygall.

On Sunday, November 20, they are competing in the Leicestershire Brass Band Association Contest.

They are rehearsing in the Littleport and East Cambridgeshire Academy Hall this Friday at 7.30 pm; all are welcome to this free event.

This Saturday, the band are playing carols in the Presbytery of Ely Cathedral for the Christmas Fair, 11am to 1pm.

Meanwhile, Littleport and District Flower Arranging Club, which marked its 60th anniversary, meet on the third Friday monthly (this Friday at 7.30pm) at Littleport Village Hall.

Littleport is also known for its charitable efforts and on November 18, The Crown Inn is holding a raffle in aid of the Ely Roller Skating Club based at Littleport Leisure Centre.

This is during their ‘Casino Night Black Jack and Roulette’ fundraiser to buy a defibrillator for Littleport Community Primary School on Parsons Lane also for public use.

Ely Roller Skating Club have a competition on November 26 and 27 in Great Yarmouth.

Most of the club are entered for this winter solo dance competition, and four girls are through to the dance roller cup final.

Ellie Bennett from Littleport, Megan Vardy, Rosalie Hassey and Keira Clifford are through, and that weekend, a ‘Bluestockings to Bimbos’ exhibition at the Adams Heritage Centre on November 25, 17 Main Street, CB6 1PJ.

Littleport is now looking forward to Christmas, with a craft Christmas Fair at Adams’ on November 19 from 10am - 4pm and everything is handmade in the village.
