A community bus is aiming to help families in East Cambridgeshire who are struggling with the cost of living crisis.

The bus is planned to stop off at different locations in the district as part of its tour.

Residents will be able to use the bus, run by East Cambridgeshire District Council (ECDC), to talk about aspects such as advice on housing, debt, energy, work and health.

Many of the bus stops are at Warm Hubs, which aim to support vulnerable and isolated people as well as those on lower incomes.

Julia Huffer, chair of ECDC’s operational services committee, said: “The rising cost of living is having an impact on everyone and we understand that many residents may feel they are struggling to cope.

“If you do need help, please do not suffer in silence and reach out for help.”

On November 14, the bus will be at Ely Market Place between 10.30am and 2.30pm.

The tour then arrives at the Sutton Royal British Legion branch on The Brook on November 15 (10am-12pm), before going to the Soham Warm Hub at the Walter Gidney Pavilion between 1.30-3pm.

Residents can find the bus at Haddenham Warm Hub at the sports and social club on Chewells Lane, CB6 3SS, between 10.30am and 2pm.

The Little Thetford Warm Hub at the village hall (The Wyches, CB6 3HG) will host the community bus on Thursday, November 17 from 10.30am till 12pm.

This is followed by a trip to the Burwell Warm Hub at Burwell Day Centre, Parsonage Close, CB25 0EN, from 1.30-3pm.

ECDC’s bus tour ends in Littleport, adjacent to St George’s Medical Centre, on Friday, November 18 from 10am to 1pm.

Cllr Huffer added: “Like the Warm Hubs, the community bus is a resource to help all of our residents, no matter what their circumstances.”

Warm Hubs are running from this month to support local residents during the winter and will be open until the end of March next year.
