AT a combined presentation and guest evening at the Cherry Tree pub in Soham, Staploe Rotary Club president Peter Holmes gave a cheque for 1,332.04 to the managing trustee of Soham's MAGPAS first responder scheme, Jacqueline Whipp. The money was raised during December at a street collection under the club's Christmas tree in the Blue Donkey forecourt on the High Street and at Budgens supermarket. Mrs Whipp told the gathering that keeping five first responder volunteers operating for a year cost the charity 2,000 in basic running costs.
Over the 12 months, the service has responded to more than 300 calls, including 11 cardiac arrests.
