THE LONG-awaited opening of a new public footpath and cycleway is expected within the coming months.

The strip of land along the A10 bypass leading to the roundabout with the A142 has split ownership between East Cambridgeshire District Council and the developer – the Kier Group, with the authority recently reaching agreement with the developer to complete the footpath/cycleway while the land was being transferred into it’s ownership.

The authority said that construction work is now nearly complete, with just minor landscaping and planting works to be finished.

Councillor Peter Moakes, leader at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “It is great to see how much work has gone into completing this path and cycleway for the benefit of so many of our residents. It is also an example of the tenacity of our officers, members and the local councils in seeing through a project despite a number of obstacles from land ownership to bad weather sometimes hindering progress.

“The landscaping will now be developed over the next few months and we will be speaking to the community to see what they would like to see. I am sure this footpath will be enjoyed by many and will become a vital link for dog walkers, cyclists and families.”
