ELY Olympian Goldie Sayers will have surgery on the injured elbow that scuppered her hopes of a medal at the London Games.
Goldie, who competed despite a torn elbow ligament, failed to register a throw in the Olympic Stadium on Tuesday and grimaced in pain after each of her three attempts, nursing her heavily strapped arm.
In the aftermath of her Olympic disappointment, Goldie took to social networking site Twitter, tweeing on Friday: “To answer Qs about elbow - I clearly tried hard...total ligament rupture, surgery soon and then the start of the next chapter.”
She also had a word for the hundreds of well wishers who has contacted her since Tuesday’s javelin event, she said: “May I say that some of the messages I have received on here this week have been completely and utterly lovely. If I made you cry...ditto!”
Since her event finished, Golide revealed that she has been getting round as many events as possible to support Team GB and had even had breakfast with gold medal winning long jumper Greg Rutherford.
