THE campaign to open a foodbank for residents in Soham who are struggling in tough economic times has been launched.

A partnership has been formed to get the facility off the ground and includes Churches Together in Soham, the children’s centre, Soham Town Council, town traders and Ely Foodbank.

A stand was set up in the town’s Budgens superstore, setting out which foods organisers would like donated, including dry goods, tins of soup and beans and preserved meats.

A public meeting took place at St Andrew’s Church this week too.

The meeting focused on the idea behind the foodbank, the success of the foodbank in Ely and how it could work in Soham.

Caroline Bosworth, one of those involved, said: “The foodbank’s aim will be to provide a short-term safety net for local people of in times of crisis with respect to their ability to feed themselves.”
