Lakenheath Village Hall is confident over plans to buy the Royal British Legion site.
Since gaining a “a valuable village asset” moratorium in November, giving villagers until April to raise £120,000 to purchase the site, fundraisers have been busy seeking loans and grants.
Brendan Fulham, chairman of Lakenheath Village Hall, said individual local donations included gifts of £1,000 and £2,000.
Tomorrow will see the unveiling of a giant barometer at the front of the Village Hall, which will show villagers how close they are to the grand total.
Mr Fulham said: I’m still exited and confident of achieving the purchase by next April.”
He added: “It won’t be for the lack of trying.”
Bids for up to £100,000 in lottery funding are in place and Mr Fulham said he was hopeful these would come through, alongside potential grants from Suffolk County Council.
Mr Fulham said he thought the scheme would be the perfect way to commemorate the First World War.
Especially, as the legion was originally built after the war as a social club for veterans.
