Ely’s former Boathouse restaurant is to undergo a wholesale revamp into an American-style bar and grill.
The Boathouse, in Annesdale, overlooking the River Great Ouse, was sold by previous owners Cambscuisine to Steve and Jo Haslam, owners of The Cutter, late last year.
And, after months spent formulating a plan, the outlet closed earlier this week and builders have moved in to begin refurbishing the venue, with the restaurant set to make way for a steakhouse and eatery.
The new restaurant will be called Grand Central Ely and will be modelled on another of the couple’s successful restaurants in Basildon, which serves a variety of typically American fare, from steaks and ribs to sliders and meatloaf.
All eight of the staff employed at The Boathouse will retain their jobs as part of the refurbishment and it is hoped that the revamp will create up to 15 new posts.
