Good map-reading skills and a keen eye were a must for competitors in Ely on Saturday as the city played host to a unique orienteering event.
The West Anglian Orienteering Club used the city as the base for the latest in a series of orienteering events it runs across the region during the year.
Using a map and, sometimes, a compass, the name of the game is to navigate from point to point as quickly as possible and return to base before your competitors.
The event started from Jubilee Gardens at 11.30am and saw competitors dashing frantically around the city for hours. Prizes were awarded to the first in each class.
The ultra-veteran class was won by Mick Smith (Herts) and Mary Nixon (Southampton).
The super-veteran class was won by Peter Jones (Hampshire) and Judy Johnson (Carlisle). The veteran class was won by Tanya Taylor (Lincoln) and Robert Campbell (West Anglian).
The open class was won by Gary Wilberforce (no club) and Valerie Suter (South London). The junior class was won by Tim Harrison (Suffolk) and Catherine Mole (Essex), the boys class was won by Daniel Hague (West Anglian) and the girls class was won by Aimée Darley (Guildford).
