The book contains memories and reminiscences of local people and Elizabeth has added many photographs offered by those she has interviewed.

Shop owner Joy Dean said she was delighted to host the signing for Elizabeth’s third book on Soham which also includes a book on the local church and local ghosts.

Mrs Dean has run the book shop for 28 years, originally from premises further down the High Street until moving to their current location in 1986.

Promoting the book has been through Soham Heritage and Tourism and Elizabeth says Gillian Peak and Geoff Griggs helped with the compilation of the stories in the book.

Copies of the book are on sale at Soham Books for £5 each.

A spokesman for Soham Heritage said: “Every place has a story to tell, as does every person who lives, works and resides within that place.

“The telling of some of the most interesting and meaningful stories of everyday people, connected with Soham, are now yours to enjoy.”

It was, said the spokesman, a chance for people to “relive their lives and how they have interacted with others throughout our town. This is a book full of personal accounts that are as memorable as the people themselves.”

Sale proceeds all go to charity.

Mrs Dean, a former librarian, said local history books were always popular “but we haven’t that many at the moment. There are not many around but hopefully Elizabeth is going to get some more done.”

She said some local history books sell out quickly but because of the small print runs it was often difficult to persuade publishers to go for a re print.

Elizabeth is also the founder and ‘walker’ for the annual Soham Ghost Walks which are now in their ninth year.

Her new book Soham in Detail is due out shortly, a photographic book on behalf of Soham Heritage and Tourism.

“They will receive the money from sales to help in their good works for our town regarding its history and heritage,” she said.
