Ely Freemasons have donated hundreds of pounds to the city’s Princess of Wales Hospital.

Steve Handscombe, Ron Williams, and Michael Allen, from the Ely Freemasons lodge, handed over a cheque for £300, which has been spent on toys and games for the children’s play area at hospital, in Lynn Road.

Lorna Lombardo, children’s nurse, said: “We drew up a wish list of items that would keep the children entertained whilst attending the hospital.

“We were thrilled that our request for toys was granted and these have been added to the fun centre donated by the Starlight Foundation. I am very grateful for the support I have received from both the local Freemasons and the Starlight Foundation.

“We now have a bright, stimulating, fun environment to welcome the children of the local community to our department.”

The toys purchased included DVDs and DSi games for the new centre, colouring books and pens, wall charts and numerous toys.

Ron Williams, preceptor for the Freemasons, said: “We were delighted to be approached by Lorna to see if we could help raise some funds to provide some new toys for the hospital.

“We hold an annual supper night and from this we raised £2,300 for local charities and the Princess of Wales Hospital was the local community hospital to benefit from

our fundraising.”
