The president of the Liberal Democrats Baroness Sal Brinton was in Ely on Tuesday to open the campaign headquarters of the party’s candidate for South East Cambridgeshire, Jonathan Chatfield.
The ceremony took place in Market Street before Baroness Brinton went on to help local activists with canvassing in the city.
Mr Chatfield said: “I am delighted that the president of the Liberal Democrat Party was able to officially open our election headquarters in the heart of Ely. “This is a clear indication of the marginal nature of this Liberal Democrat/Conservative seat which five years ago I got within 6,000 votes of winning.
“This time we are benefiting from the Conservatives adopting a lawyer from London to fight me a local family man from Impington.
“Once again we are finding Labour out of the race in a poor third place.”
Mr Chatfield is vying for the South East Cambridgeshire seat against Labour’s Huw Jones, Conservative Lucy Frazer, UKIP’s Deborah Rennie and Green Party candidate Clive Semmens.
