Members of the East Cambridgeshire Green Party have organised a charity concert to raise funds for Ely Foodbank.

Will Law, of Just William and the Outlaws, is a member of the party and will be collaborating with a line-up of local acts on Friday, June 26, at the Kings Arms pub, in Ely.

The line up includes Vidmante Puidokaite, a singer songwriter from Ely, Saskatchewan, a harmonica fuelled acoustic duo, and God Hates Astronauts, a rock outfit from Cambridge. Just William and the Outlaws will conclude the evening.

The bands will also be holding a food collection on the night, whilst also distributing information leaflets on the Foodbank and the Green Party. They aim to raise at least £250.

The concert coincides with the national demonstrations against austerity and was inspired by the Green Party’s ethos of social justice. None of the acts are receiving payment for their time and the gig has cost a total of £60, for leaflet printing and PA hire.

Mr Law, the organiser of the event, said: “I think it’s important that, as a community, we stand together to support those who need it the most. We cannot bring about social justice overnight, but we can work together at a grassroots level to make it more achievable.”

Doors open at 7pm and entrance is £2 in advance, or £3 on the door. Tickets can be purchased from www.jwato.com/elyfoodbanktickets or from the Kings Arms pub. Monetary donations can be made online at www.jwato.com/elyfoodbankdonate up until Sunday, June 28, where the total will be finalised.
