A new seven-bay temporary classroom block could be installed at a primary school in Haddenham under plans submitted by Cambridgeshire County Council.

The authority is seeking permission for the new classroom block in the grounds of the Robert Arkenstall Primary School in order to relieve pressure on places for pupils.

The county council says that it plans to build a permanent extension to the school in the coming years but said the temporary block will have to remain in place until the work is completed, which is expected in 2020.

The county council said: “For September 2015 there could be up to 43 Reception-aged pupils coming into the school, with 38 Year 6 children leaving the school; therefore a need for an add itional classroom to ease class organisation.

“There is a scheme in the current five-year capital programme in the 2019/20 start year to provide a one class extension, the mobile classroom the subject of this application would be removed on completion of this work.”

According to the county council, the school has nine classrooms with capacity for 270 pupils, adding that 277 pupils were currently on the roll.

A decision on the plans is expected within the next eight weeks. To view the plans, or to have a say, visit www.eastcambs.gov.uk
