A compound for commuters to put their bikes was unveiled at Ely rail station on Wednesday.
Abellio Greater Anglia has installed the CyclePark+, which has space for 144 bikes, for cyclists using the station. It was paid for by a cycle rail grant from the Department for Transport.
The compound has CCTV, motion sensor lighting and access only via a key fob system so bikes are securely locked away. To use it, cyclists obtain a key fob from the ticket office for a refundable deposit.
It was opened by Cambridgeshire County Councillor Ian Bates, chairman of the Economy and Environment Committee, and Abellio Greater Anglia’s area customer service manager, Paul Stannard.
Mr Stannard said: “We are committed to improving cycle facilities for our customers and I am delighted that the new CyclePark+ is now open.
“The improved facilities at Ely will offer customers more secure and additional cycle storage facilities, encouraging more people to travel to the station by bike.”
Councillor Bates said: “This is great news and is part of the County Council’s work to join up various transport options to give people much more choice.
“We have been investing millions of pounds into improving cycle facilities across Cambridgeshire and encouraging more people to get on their bikes.”
