Ely’s big Christmas light switch-on is nearly here and it is set to be bigger and better than ever.
Over the last 11 years the event has grown into a well established fixture of the city’s calendar, and draws thousands of visitors to Ely’s Market Place.
Friday (November 27) sees this year’s event when a new stage is set to bring a whole new look to the Market Place where the crowds will be entertained by top musical and entertainment acts.
This year’s headline acts include Charlie Healy from The Risk, Mon Amie from XFactor 2015 boot camp; Caterina Pereira, and Yasmin Jane (local singing sensation).
Other entertainment will come from JezO magician, George Kovari Jnr an escapologist and 4th Dimension Dance.
In addition to the headline acts, the award winning local theatre group, KD Theatre will kick off the switch-on with a procession through the city with Snow White and the wicked witch entering the Market Place in a horse-drawn carriage. They will leave from Poets House at 4.30pm.
The theatre will also perform ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ on the stage.
All the fun starts from 3pm on Friday in the Market Place with funfair rides and the stall-holders opening at 4pm but be aware road closures are on all day from 5.30am throughout the city.
The event would not be possible without sponsorship from local businesses.
