The sound of Christmas echoed around St Andrew’s Church in Sutton when 400 people packed the church to enjoy a children’s carol concert.
Around 190 youngsters from Sutton Primary School’s Key Stage 2 took part in readings and seasonal song in a service which attracted the most families the school has seen at the annual concert in recent years.
Head teacher Gill Gilbert said: “The church was totally packed, the most I have ever seen. It was lovely to have such a large number of people turn up.
“Maybe this year families felt they really needed to feel the true meaning of Christmas.
“It was a mix of modern and traditional songs with readings from the Bible. You could tell the children really enjoyed performing, it was a superb atmosphere and the perfect way to bring the term to a close.”
The service is among the school’s festive fun activities in the run up to the Christmas holidays which have included a festive bazaar, Christmas parties and a nativity play by Key Stage 1 children.
