Ely Rotary Club’s gathered for their annual Christmas luncheon at their hall in Witchford.
About 50 people including members’ families and friends, and members of Ely Inner Wheel Club, the ladies’ equivalent of Rotary enjoyed a three course Christmas lunch.
Afterwards Harriett Maddox provided music for four carols, and two special events were celebrated: one was the presentation to Rotarian Ron Dexter of a prestigious Paul Harris Award, and the other was for Mike Thompson, a previous Rotary member, who was awarded an Honorary Membership for his hard and dedicated work for the club.
Ron has been a member of Ely Rotary Club since joining in 1984, and was treasurer for five years. He has been president during this time. His community work has included belonging to the Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust, and he is still the treasurer of this organisation.
A Paul Harris award is made in recognition of outstanding work in the Rotary movement and local community service.
