Diners at a restaurant in Ely were given a shock when an elderly woman, who was trying to park her car, drove into the front of the building.
The accident happened at around 12:30 at The Old Fire Engine House on Sunday, with the woman reportedly attempting to park outside the restaurant on St Mary’s Street before having Sunday lunch there.
The freak accident destroyed a food preperation area but luckily no-one, including the driver, was injured.
The restaurant, owned by Ann Jarman and her husband, was closed for the first time in 48 years as glass and rubble was swept up in the wake of the accident.
Police and the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) attended the scene, and an EEAST spokesman confirmed that the driver was uninjured and that she was discharged at the scene.
