Highlights of 2015 for your Ely and surrounding villages in pictures chosen by photographers Helen Drake and Steve Williams

Each has chosen images they captured in and around the city in 2015 that capture some of the most memorable stories and events of the year.

For instance in July Steve travelled to 10 Downing Street in London to wave Soham teenager Callum Fairhurst off on his round the world cycle ride fundraising in memory of his brother Liam.

Callum took a break from the 18,000 ride over Christmas and kept a promise to his mum to be home over the festive season.

In February last year Steve also visited Soham couple Emily Keates and Dustin Graziotti to meet their unusual house pet a hog named Fella.

Helen was in Littleport in August to capture protestors trying to save the village’s last remaining bank - Barclays.

But despite dressing as super heroes and staging a mammoth fight the protesters sadly lost the battle when the branch closed in October.

In July Helen was in Witcham for the annual pea shooting championships, which was included in the 2015 alternative sports calendar by betting firm Betfair.

A scorching hot day helped make Ely’s annual Aquafest organised by the city’s Rotary Club’s a soaking success and Steve was on hand to capture the action.

Last year also marked the end of Sir Jim Paice’s time as MP for South East Cambridgeshire after 28 years and Helen visited him at home to record the moment.
