Almost 100 golfers grabbed their clubs - and selfie sticks – to raise thousands of pounds for charity at Ely City Golf Club’s annual Captains’ Charity Day.
The golfers were met with glorious sunshine on September 23 and all snapped a selfie before teeing off, with the Fen Boy Fore team grabbing the prize for the best photo.
On the green, a team of home players – Rob Latham, Richard Yardy, Gary Mates and Dougie Davidson – was victorious in the four-person stableford event.
Within the golf there was a Hole in One competition with a grand prize of £5,000 towards a Premier Travel holiday but unfortunately nobody achieved the ‘Holy Grail of golf’ during the day.
The golf was followed by a big charity auction, expertly conducted by David Palmer of ‘Flog It!’ and ‘Cash in the Attic’ fame, which helped raise in excess of £8,000 for the East Anglian Children’s Hospices (EACH).
Men’s captain, Alan Todd, said the day was enjoyed by all.
“The big winner on the day was the Captains’ Charity EACH,” he said
“A huge thanks to all those who took part, helpers on the day, those who helped to put the day together, sponsors and members who donated prizes for the day.”
