A story entitled ‘The Lorry’ written by Tessa Hays scooped first prize at the weekend in the Ely Writers’ Day short story competition.
Judges: Brenda Mead, Jackie Tyler and Annabel Reddick chose Tessa’s thriller tale as the best out of the large number of entries of stories of 500 words on any topic submitted for the competition.
Tessa won £50 for her efforts. Second prize of £25 was won by Rene Griffin with her story ‘Gnome Harvest’ and third prize of £10 was won by Lauren Thomas’s ‘You used to write me love letters’.
Saturday’s event, organised by Rosemary Westwell, at St Peter’s Church room also included speakers on the art of writing and refreshments.
The judges said this year’s standard of entries was really high.
